The Judicial Office for Higher Courts manages the fund on behalf of the New Zealand judiciary through the New Zealand Institute of Judicial Studies (IJS).
IJS is the education arm of the judiciary and provides education programmes and resources to:
- Support judges in the ongoing development of their judicial careers;
- Promote judicial excellence, and
- Foster an awareness of developments in the law, its social context, and judicial administration.
The Governing Board is comprised mainly of judges, together with representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the legal profession, law schools and the community.
The work of the Board is supplemented by a number of Bench Education Committees. The main purpose of these committees is to ensure that the IJS is responsive in its curriculum and programme development to the needs of each bench and specialist jurisdictions.
